As Lincoln County District Attorney, the job is to uphold the law, protect the community and stand up for victims. The pursuit of justice must be carried out in a fair and ethical way. Cable is focused on doing the right thing for the people of Lincoln County, including the approximately 30 employees of the District Attorney’s Office, while conservatively managing a $3 million budget.
He’ll focus on the most serious crimes.
The office files almost 2,000 cases a year, with many more under review. Cable will devote more resources to prosecuting violent crimes and sexual assault cases to keep the community safe.
He’ll address ongoing county mental health and addiction issues.
The majority of cases involve substance abuse and/or mental illness. Cable is committed to stop the revolving door, save taxpayer money, and make the community safer. Working with community partners while supporting Drug Court, Mental Health Court, and HOPE Court will improve those outcomes.
He’ll implement a diversion program for certain low-level misdemeanors.
In 2016, the Lincoln County Commissioners approved a program to divert low-level misdemeanor cases before they are filed – a program that was never completed or implemented. The District Attorney’s Office, under Cable’s leadership, is now working on the parameters of that program so it can be put into action.
He’ll reduce turnover at the Lincoln County District Attorney’s Office.
Constant turnover leads to serious issues in the ability to effectively prosecute offenders. During Cable’s previous nine years in the District Attorney’s Office, 21 attorneys came and left – five attorneys have left the office in the past 18 months. To put that in perspective, there are 11 attorney positions. He’s committed to building a stronger office – with staff who have the training and support they need.
